Technical SEO: 52 checks on every single page

We go through every single page, not just the home page. And we say who needs to fix what.

52 checks per page, split into what you can fix yourself and what your developer has to.

What actually gets checked?

Our own crawler fetches every page on the website and looks for 52 different things: missing or duplicate titles and descriptions, broken internal links, redirect chains and loops, canonicals pointing at error pages, orphan pages nobody links to, mismatches between the sitemap and reality, thin content, missing alt text, response times, several main headings on the same page, and a number of things that only matter when they are wrong.

Why do you split the findings by who has to fix them?

We split the findings by who has to fix them because it is the only split that gets them fixed. A missing meta description and a broken link can be fixed by an editor in five minutes in the CMS. A missing SSL certificate or a wrong server configuration takes someone with access to the server. Mixing the two in one list means neither gets done: one person cannot do it, and the other does not know they are supposed to. That is why every finding says whether it is for you or for a developer.

What are Core Web Vitals, and what should I do about them?

Core Web Vitals are three measures of how a page feels while it loads. LCP is how long it takes before the largest element is in place, and it should be under 2.5 seconds. CLS measures how much the content jumps around while loading; a button that moves just before you tap it is a bad experience. INP measures how long it takes from a click until something happens. We get them from Google's own measurements of real visitors, not from a lab test, and say what specifically is dragging them down, and whether it is images, JavaScript or the server.

How often is the website audited?

The website is audited once a week, on a fixed day, and also whenever you ask for it. The full audit fetches every page on your own website and typically takes between twenty seconds and a couple of minutes, depending on how many pages there are. It costs nothing at any data provider: it is our own crawler on our own server.

Every finding comes with an explanation and a fix. Not an error code.

  1. 1We say what is wrong, on which page, and why it matters, in plain English.
  2. 2We say what to write or change, and whether it is you or your developer who should do it.
  3. 3At the next audit we check for ourselves whether it was fixed, and close the finding.

And the next time we go through the website, we check for ourselves whether it was done.

Questions and answers

Do I need to install anything on my website?
No. We fetch the pages from the outside, just like Google does. There is no plugin, no code to insert, and we never write anything to your website.
How many pages do you go through?
Up to 500 per audit. If the website has more, the most important ones are taken first: the home page, what the sitemap points to, and what is linked to internally.
What if my website needs JavaScript to show its content?
Then today we only see what is in the HTML. It is a limitation we are open about: the same limitation applies to some of the crawlers that build AI answers, so it is often worth knowing anyway.
