Growth plan: for websites that do not have traffic yet
Most SEO tools stall at zero. This is the plan that comes before.
An order of work: what is blocking, what Google has already picked up, and what you build first.
Why does ordinary SEO analysis not work on a new website?
Ordinary SEO analysis does not work on a new website because it calculates on traffic you do not have. Quick wins require pages that already rank. Click-through analysis requires enough impressions for an average to mean something. With 196 impressions and zero clicks in a month, an ordinary tool shows four zeros and an empty list, and you conclude that the tool does not work, when in fact there is a different piece of work that has to be done first.
So what kind of work is it?
It is a different kind of work, done in three steps. First, whatever is blocking has to go: pages Google is not allowed to index, a sitemap that does not exist, a robots.txt that shuts the door. Then you look at what Google has already picked up; even 196 impressions tell you which topics have started to take hold. And finally you build content on those topics, in the order of least resistance. The growth plan is those three things laid out according to what has been measured on your particular website.
When does the tool switch back to ordinary analysis?
The tool switches back by itself, once the numbers are large enough. We look at the total number of impressions: below about 500 a month the website counts as invisible, above that as emerging, and above 5,000 as established. The thresholds also decide how small a number is shown at all: on a large website three impressions are noise, on a new one they are a signal. You do not have to choose anything. The screen changes when the numbers do.
Is this not just general advice?
No, and that is the whole difference. Advice like "write good content" can be read for free anywhere. The growth plan is calculated on your website's own numbers: which searches you already appear for without knowing it, which of your pages Google has indexed, what is technically blocking right now. It is the same kind of plan you would pay an agency to make by hand.
Milestones instead of good advice.
- 1Clear away whatever is blocking indexing. We say exactly what and where.
- 2See which topics Google has already picked up, even when the numbers are small.
- 3Build content on those topics in order, with a milestone you can see you have reached.
And the next time we go through the website, we check for ourselves whether it was done.
Questions and answers
- When is the growth plan shown?
- Automatically, when the website has too little traffic for the ordinary analyses to say anything. If you have more, you see those instead. You can always open it manually.
- Does it also apply to brand new domains with no Search Console history?
- Yes, but with fewer numbers. If Google has not shown you to anyone yet, there is nothing to read from, so the site audit and the technical blockers carry the plan.
- How long does it take to get out of "invisible"?
- It depends on how much content has to be built and how competitive the field is. We set milestones instead of promising a date, because a date would be a guess.
